Welcome to the Canadian Women's Club
About the Club
Today, the CWC has over 200 members and runs activities and events in London
and the Home Counties from an office in the Canadian High Commission, Grosvenor
Square W1.
CWC members range from Canadians who are permanent UK residents to those who
are here only temporarily. We also have a number of non-Canadian members who
have links to Canada and want to keep those links active. We welcome all women
who have an interest in getting together to enjoy Canadian hospitality in the
UK.
The CWC organises a wide range of events and activities to cater to the varied
interests, schedules and lifestyles of our members - from those who work full
time to those who have more flexibility during their day. CWC members enjoy
the opportunity to get together, exchange ideas, broaden horizons and participate
in our wide variety of activities and charitable work.
All our activities are announced to members in our quarterly bulletin (September,
January and April) and in regular email bulletins. These also provide updates
on the Maple Leaf Trust and our charitable activities as well as the events
of our fellow Canadian clubs and organisations in the UK.
The CWC is a member of the Federation of International Womens Associations
in London (FIWAL) and the Commonwealth Countries League (CCL).

Dear Members:
Last Thursday, I was truly delighted to see so many at our Annual General Meeting. For those who were unable to join us, we missed you and you missed an exceptionally lovely day. Be sure to check out the pictures on our blog: http://canadianwomensclublondon.blogspot.com/. One member mentioned to me that the food alone was well worth the trip! VP, Patty Bell prepared an amazing array of Lebanese dishes and a number of delicious desserts that we all not only thoroughly enjoyed but also spawned discussions of a CWC cookbook! Thank you, Patty. Another member stopped me to say how much she enjoyed the Year in Review - a powerpoint presentation highlighting the various ongoing activities and special events that have taken place over the past year. Kudos to Barbara Richards for this visual treat, a very welcome addition to the day.

At Thursday's meeting, I had an opportunity to reflect on these past two years and to say a few words. I mentioned that serving as President had become pretty much my full-time job but not in my wildest dreams did I anticipate the exciting events that have taken place or the wonderful friendships that have developed. The first year was truly a great celebration of our club's 75 years while this year we have continued to further build on those strong foundations. We have had a busy schedule of exciting events enabling Canadians and those interested in Canada to build friendships with others living in the UK. At the same time, we have been working with a purpose: raising monies for the Maple Leaf Trust. I am so proud that the club has this special dimension - Canadians helping their fellow Canadians by supporting some of Canada's brightest students and assisting elderly Canadian veterans living this country.
Also, I was able to salute members of the executive who have been unstoppable in their determination to grow and develop the CWC. Each one has played a vital role in the successes of the past two years and I can't thank you enough for your efforts. As well, I was able to express appreciation to the CWC members who have attended hospitalities, our on-going activities and our special events over the past two years. Members are the lifeblood of the CWC and your participation is crucial to the vitality of our organization. Thank you so much for your interest and support.
Although I have lived away from Canada now for more than two decades, I am especially proud of my Canadian roots and I have truly enjoyed working to strengthen the CWC and its place in the Canadian community living here in the UK. I am looking forward to focusing on the work of the Maple Leaf Trust in the future.
I know that I am leaving the CWC in extremely capable hands. Going forward, CWC President Teresa Howe will be writing to you every two weeks, sharing her passion for enjoying life in this great city in the company of fellow Canadians. Teresa has an amazing team of dedicated and enthusiastic members in formation. If you would like to join the team, please do not hesitate to let her know. There are already a number of wonderful activities being planned.
Undoubtedly, I will treasure this past two years' experiences for the rest of my life. Thank you again for your support.

WE BID ADIEU TO OUR OFFICE MANAGER
Over the past two years, Phyllis Nickerson has been most people's first point of contact with the club - answering emails or phone calls from prospective members, responding to inquiries about activities, scholarships etc - the list is endless. Her contributions to the CWC have been countless. Besides the Bulletins and E- Newsletters that have kept her busy over the past two years, she has always been very keen to help with whatever the task at hand. There was never any hesitation to go the extra mile! There are no words that adequately express our sincerest appreciation. We have been very, very fortunate! Moreover, her family has often been called upon and they have ALL have been so helpful. The Nickerson family will be returning to Canada in August. We will miss you terribly. On behalf of the CWC membership, Margaret presented Phyllis with a small treasure, a 1753 engraving of Grosvenor Square.
