Canadians have been helping their fellow Canadians living in the UK
through the work of the Maple Leaf Trust and its affiliates for nearly
60 years.
As the premier charity of the Canadian community in the UK, the Maple
Leaf Trust raises funds to support the work of its two charitable causes:
the Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund and the
Veterans' Support Committee.
|
|
For UK-based Canadians, the Maple Leaf Trust offers a means of staying
connected with their homeland in a very purposeful way - a way that
enables them to recognize the services rendered by Canadians who stepped
forward in WWII and to help today's outstanding young Canadians prepare
to contribute meaningfully to the challenges facing our twenty-first
century world.
We welcome you to learn about our work and to consider supporting Canadian
veterans and scholars living in the UK.

The Veterans' Support Committee
|
|
|
The Veterans' Support Committee (VSC) was established in 1949 to support
the 18,000 Canadian veterans of the two World Wars who took their discharge
in the UK and who stayed here to live. These veterans are ineligible
for Canadian pensions and many find themselves in very difficult circumstances.
|
|
Since its founding, the VSC has provided practical and social assistance
to veterans and their dependents. Each family receives quarterly payments
plus a bonus for Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving and on the veteran's
birthday.
"I use the money for my heating bills...my dear
husband would have been so proud of the help that you have given me."
Mrs JG, husband CASC in Canada & Italy
The VSC provides a lifeline for these veterans, many of whose circumstances
are very difficult. For some, the money is used for life's necessities;
for others the emotional support is just as important. For some veterans
or their surviving spouse, the VSC's remembrance of a birthday or at
Christmas is their only remaining contact with Canada.
Your donation will allow the VSC to continue to help these needy Canadian
veterans in their final years.

CCSF Scholar, awarded the Belle Shenkman Award for the Arts, 2008
|
Since its inception in 1967, Canada's centennial year, the Canadian
Centennial Scholarship Fund (CCSF) has awarded more than 300 scholarships
of between £500 and £3,000 to outstanding students from
across Canada who are enrolled in postgraduate programmes at UK universities,
colleges, institutes or conservatories.
|
| Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic excellence, as well as
on their ability to represent Canada within the UK academic and artistic
community. The selection process consists of both written submissions
and personal interviews. Recipients represent a breadth of academic interests
and pursuits. |
|
The scholarships, including The Mary Le Messurier Scholarship for the
Study of History and The Belle Shenkman Award for the Study of Arts
are among the most prestigious annual scholarships for Canadians studying
in the UK.
